The French fashion house Lanvin have officially appointed Peter Copping as their artistic director leading both the womenswear and menswear collections. After several seasons under the direction of an internal design team, Copping will be the house’s first artistic director since April 2023, when French designer Bruno Sialelli resigned the role.

Copping began his career at Sonia Rykiel and then spent over a decade at Louis Vuitton with Marc Jacobs as head of womenswear. He was subsequently named Creative Director of Nina Ricci in Paris and Oscar de la Renta in New York, where Mr. de la Renta, who had himself been a designer at Lanvin under Antonio Castillo, designated Copping his successor. Most recently, Copping served as Head of Couture at Balenciaga where he directed the ateliers for the reintroduction of the couture collection and subsequently as Head of VIP and Special Projects.

Siddhartha Shukla, Deputy CEO of Lanvin, said in a statement: “Peter Copping’s arrival at Lanvin is an important milestone in the renaissance of one of the great French maisons. I am confident that with Peter’s vision and technical rigour and the continued perseverance of our teams globally, we will identify a new frontier in fashion and deliver beauty and results in equal measure.”
