Mad Max gets madder
We’re back in the vast Wasteland, racing across the arid desertscape in pimped-up, salvaged, hybrid, renegade vehicles. The latest Mad Max chapter – Furiosa – is here: loud, wild and outta control. Revving up where 2015’s Fury Road left us, the apocalyptic war rages on as tyrants fight for dominance and Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) tries to make her way home. Alongside Joy, Nicholas Hoult returns, this time joined by Chris Hemsworth, thirteen year-old Quaden Bayles and powerlifting champion Nathan Jones. Watch it on the biggest screen you can find.

Mad Max: Furiosa is out now.

Alvaro Barrington’s Tate Commission
A four-metre aluminium sculpture of a dancing figure wearing Jawara Alleyne stands in the centre of Alvaro Barrington’s Tate Commission. Inspired by his sister’s moves at Notting Hill Carnival, the figure represents the artist’s celebration of community, culture and family. In other rooms, find sofas under corrugated iron ceilings, representing Barrington’s Caribbean heritage, and chains hanging from inside a cell-like structure. Read our interview with Barrington here.

Alvaro Barrington’s Tate Commission runs until 26 January 2025.

Pop-up

Harry Styles, and now he also designs
After conquering the nail and wellness industry, Harry Styles’ Pleasing brand now introduces its first ready-to-wear collection. Inspired by long hot summers, the collection draws retro, easeful silhouettes decorated with bold graphics and whimsical decoration. From this weekend, Selfridges’ Corner Shop houses the range, transforming the space into a Pleasing pop-up. And we promise, Harry will be there 24/7.

Bulges and bosoms
Tom of Finland’s bulges have finally met their match in Beryl Cook’s bosoms. An often overlooked British artist, Beryl Cook’s paintings of buxom women, often clad in leopard print and teetering on high heels, are a celebration of British culture and its garish excesses. Pairing her with Tom of Finland builds a bridge between the two artists, both obsessed with almost comical over-exaggerated proportions and tongue-in-cheek scenarios.

Beryl Cook/Tom of Finland runs until August 25th at Studio Voltaire.

Friday night sorted
Ryder the Eagle lands in London once again, with a brand new look (the long hair has gone!) and a brilliant new album. Across three records, the French troubadour has travelled far and wide, down US highways, London side streets and European avenues, through love, lust and loss – translating these stories to sonic vignettes that resonate on vinyl and leap out on stage (Ryder’s live shows see him abandon the stage with regularity). The musician plays at The Old Blue Last this Friday, supported by ethereal London songwriter Avice Caro.

Ryder the Eagle plays The Old Blue Last on Friday 31st May – buy tickets here.

Moon Safari
French electronic duo Air bring their seminal 1998 record Moon Safari to London’s Royal Albert Hall. The record is inspired by the story of two students of astrophysics and architecture walking into a bar on the moon and is awash with lush layered synth and otherworldly vocals. Inside the Royal Albert Hall, this intergalactic world lands in our own.

Air play at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday 31st May – more info here.

Who doesn’t love a croqueta?
The answer to the above question is nobody. And Bar Kroketa make some of the best croquetas in London. Located on Beak Street in Soho, enter the restaurant and be transported to the intimate bars of Spain. Try a sobrasada and apple salsa croqueta, and then a chicken and gribiche one, and then a black squid ink and alioli version. Then maybe go back for one filled with wild mushroom and pickled mushroom. Screw it, we’ll have one of everything! And good news, June sees Bar Kroketa open a second location on St Christopher’s Place.

Bar Kroketa is located at 21 Beak St.
