Selfridges opens a fashion joke shop
By Barry Pierce | Fashion | 6 March 2024

It’s a question as old as time: why did the chicken cross the road? To get to Selfridges, obviously. Until the 30th of March, the Corner Shop at Selfridges has been transformed into the Joke Shop, a shoppable comedy store complete with classic joke-shop tricks and curated products from several Selfridges brands.

You’ll be able to shop pieces from Wales’ own Adam Jones, the cult New York brand Puppets and Puppets, the whimsical handbag makers Judith Leiber as well as items from Cowboys of Habit, Anya Hindmarch and the punky jewellery brand Corrina Goutos. There will also be limited edition merch available like a shirt that says I went to Selfridges and all I got was this Lousy T-shirt.

The entire experience has been curated to also be a functioning joke shop, taking inspiration from some of the iconic joke shops across the country: find chewing gum earrings, rubber chickens, and fake poo – megalolz. At weekends, a Joke Shop Manager will entertain visitors at various times, and an immersive Manager’s Office with giant jumping beans will be accessible to Selfridges Unlocked Keyholders.

The Joke Shop at Selfridges runs until March 30th
