End of the World

Premiere: Searows’ new video stars a young couple in love and on the run

Blood-stained and on the run, in the cinematic video for Searows’ new track End Of The World (premiered here), two lovers find themselves loved up against the odds. It’s them against the world, and the world is fighting back. The idea came to the Pacific Northwest musician having recently watched dark British comedy The End of the F***ing World and then heading out on the road supporting Gracie Abrams on tour across the UK and EU.

“My partner and I had just rewatched the show The End of the F***ing World,” says Searows, “and after talking through what my song End Of The World meant to me, I realized I wanted the video to explore this specific kind of anxiety that I know I share with many others, where my mind can turn the smallest worry into the literal end of the world. So we decided to create our own little ode to runaways, à la Bones and All and The End of the F***ing World.”

As this lover’s tale plays out in the music video, Searows’ track End Of The World provides a parallel soundtrack. Richly layered, intimate acoustic riffs dance between a soft drumbeat as Searow’s hushed tones guide the narrative: “I saw the end of the world last night/I ran to you” – it’s the sound of young romance, of finding that one person who gets you like no other. You can see why Ethel Cain is a known fan; connect the suburban outcast dots.

“In the video there’s a narrative involving two people who find each other at a rest stop in the middle of nowhere Oregon, after experiencing separate and unspecified catastrophic events,” the Searows explains. “Ultimately the pair finds happiness and solace in each other’s company, which is a theme of the song: When you accept love and find community, or find even one other person who can ground you (and you them), the feelings that could have ended the world become manageable.”

Searows play at Omeara, London, on 19th Feb, and Le Hasard Ludique, Paris, on 22nd February. Tickets here.
