Fender revive classic models with a series of major musician collaborations
By Alex James Taylor | Music | 27 September 2023

Revisiting their iconic archive, Fender continues to evolve its Vintera series: a line of meticulously designed guitars that pay homage to cult models from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Following the launch of the series in 2019, the new Vintera II collection reimagines and highlights fan-favourite models with reconstructed original flourishes, colours and details, including Stratocaster and Telecaster classics alongside rare gems like the Mustang and Bass VI.

Celebrating the launch, Fender reveal a new campaign that pairs musical trailblazers and exciting newcomers, collaborating on a classic cover track. Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore teams up with Lindsey Jordan (aka Snail Mail) to perform Lou Reed’s Satellite of Love, Josh Klinghoffer, Nick Reinhart and Steve McDonald cover I Want You by The Beatles, and Grammy-winner Madison Cunningham joins forces with The Revolution’s (Prince’s back band) Wendy Melvoin for a rendition of The Flamingos’ I Only Have Eyes for You.

“I gotta say those new pickups and employment of semi-jumbo frets make this vintage-style Jag a rough-and-tumble best friend to my beloved Jazzmaster,” said Thurston Moore. “They’re like the Batman and Robin of blast furnace rock n roll!”

“It was a huge pleasure to get to fan out about Lou Reed with one of my favourite guitar players of all time,” added Lindsey Jordan of Snail Mail. “The guitar that I learned to play on when I was six was a mini-Stratocaster and it always feels like second nature to get one in my hands. I’ve been incorporating Stratocasters into my live set more and more recently, so it was exciting to try out the Vintera II ‘60s Stratocaster and dial in my tone.”
