KNWLS take us through the second instalment of their candid ‘Proxy’ photo project
By Barry Pierce | Fashion | 13 June 2023

We were several months into lockdown when KNWLS dropped PROXY, their photography project in celebration of community, individuality and togetherness during the early stages of the pandemic.

In a series of purposefully low-key and amateur shots taken by the models themselves, PROXY was both a fashion show and an art project, and something that the minds behind KNWLS, Charlotte Knowles and Alexandre Arsenault, knew was too good to leave as a one-off.

As they tell us — “We always intended PROXY to continue in one form or another. As we grow as a company and continue to grow, we feel like it is really important to connect to our customers and people who are vital to the brand’s growth. We really wanted to show KNWLS in a light that focused on the community, celebrating the diverse characters that make the brand what it is today.”

Enter PROXY 2.0. Styled by Georgia Pendlebury and featuring familiar faces such as Alva Claire, Mia Regan and Xen Hur, this sequel project expands on the limits of the first. Wearing pieces spanning FW23, SS23 and the archive accessories, such as the Claw Jacket, the Cyclo Dress, the Harley Jeans and Halycon Leggings. Shot by photographer Arnaud Lajeunie, this really is KNWLS in its truest form.

Of course, there would have to be a throwback to the original PROXY, so the models themselves have once again been let loose to produce some effortlessly cool self-portraits. “We really wanted to show the other side of the brand,” Knowles and Arsenault tell us. “The customers, our friends, our team and the people who make up the brand in reality.”
