Julian Casablancas joins Hedi Slimane’s Portrait of a Performer series

Last December, Hedi Slimane put on a show for the ages. Presenting his FW23 Celine womenswear collection, the designer reawakened the early 00s indie scene via a collection inspired by its movement’s singular energy and a post-show gig featuring live performances by Iggy Pop, Interpol and The Strokes.

It turns out that while together, Slimane and Strokes (and The Voidz) frontman Julian Casablancas caught up and got to work, shooting a series of images for Slimane’s ongoing Portrait of a Performer series, following the likes of Jack White, Leikeli47, French director Suzanne Lindon and London bands the Scarletts and Gingerella. Shot by Slimane at the Chateau Marmont, Casablancas is seen wearing a Celine Homme contrast-lapel blazer and sunglasses alongside his signature beaten up jeans and sneakers. This month will see The Strokes release a special vinyl box set titled, The Singles – Volume 01, featuring singles from the band’s first three albums, B-sides and rarities, released via RCA Records/Legacy Recordings on black vinyl. Revisit our very special in-conversation between Casablancas and Royal Trux icon Jennifer Herrema.
