Mining his enduring artistic references, Jonathan Anderson‘s new SS23 Loewe menswear campaign pays homage to the work of British still life and portrait painter William Nicholson, and US photographer George Platt Lynes.
Shot by David Sims and starring Loewe ambassadors Josh O’Connor and Stéphane Bak, Nicholson’s expressive paintings depicting still objects inspires the prominent placement of the house’s core bags – the Amazona 15, the Puzzle and the Fold Shopper – while O’connor and Bak’s staged poses nod towards Platt Lynes’ highly stylized aesthetic and surrealist sensibilities. Blending reality and fantasy, the imagery perfectly encapsulates Anderson’s tech-infused SS23 Loewe collection, which saw models step out in garments made of screens showing fish and birds in their natural habitats, alongside interactive masks and leather coats bonded with phone cases and charging cables.
