Dior is set to show its Fall 2023 menswear collection on 3rd December 2022 in Egypt.

Taking place in Cairo against the backdrop of the Giza pyramids, the news celebrates designer Kim Jones‘ well-documented passion for travel and love for Africa – his nomadic childhood included stays throughout the continent, in Ethiopia, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, and Botswana, where his father worked as a hydrogeologist. For Spring 2021, Jones evoked memories of this period in his life, enlisting the help of Ghanian-born figurative painter Amoako Boafo, while the designer has frequently shown his Dior collections in global locations, from Miami to Tokyo.

While this will mark Dior’s first time showing in Egypt, the house does have history with the country: think back to John Galliano’s Spring 2004 couture collection, inspired by a hot-air balloon ride the designer took over Egypt’s tombs, pyramids and valleys, this translated across resplendent gold outfits, empress headdresses and dramatic crystal-encrusted jewellery in the shape of scarabs and eagles.
