SS23 preview: Photographer Jean-Paul Goude is the inspiration behind Nensi Dojaka’s next collection

Few designers manage to attract the cultish devotion of their fans like Nensi Dojaka. Working in tandem with Di Petsa, S.S. Daley and Chet Lo to breathe new life into London’s creative scene, the designer’s ascent to the big leagues has been swift and exacting, earning her the coveted LVMH Prize (and it’s €300,000 endowment) and the BFC’s Foundation Award for emerging designer talent in 2021.

Now, Dojaka continues to build. Her dresses are still as sexy, manifesting in ruffled tulle or smooth velvets, holding their own with mini-spaghetti straps that jut and splinter around the body, while her formal cuts – think slinky blazers and high-waisted trousers propped up with strong lines – offer variety and function, still retaining an air of delicacy as she fuses breezy, sometimes resplendent fabrics with minimal embellishment.

But what’s in store for Dojaka’s next offering, inspired in part by the work of photographer and Grace Jones collaborator Jean-Paul Goude? The Albanian designer is careful not to give too much away, but does tease us to expect the unexpected in flourishes of glowing lurex and the promise of some truly beautiful lace.
