Hollywood forever

Nicolas bloody Cage is the face of Casablanca

Hollywood’s favourite wildcard Nicolas Cage fronts the new Casablanca campaign imagery, shot by Hugo Comte in Los Angeles alongside models Alton Mason and Anok Yai.

It was after Cage bought a Casablanca shirt at the Maxfield LA pop-up store that the brand’s creative director Charaf Tajer reached out to the actor. Wanting to capture a vision of cinematic pop culture through a truly universally iconic name – Cage certainly fits the bill– Tajer and Comte engineered a shoot inspired as much by the chilled, everyday American lifestyle scenes portrayed in the early paintings of Eric Fischl as the hedonistic pursuit of the American dream. A stalwart of US cinema, Cage personifies this: think back to his iconic roles in the Coen Brother’s Raising Arizona, David Lynch’s Lost Highway and Mike Figgis’ Leaving Las Vegas.

Of the campaign, Tajer says: “Los Angeles is an important city for me, and I wanted to create a Hollywood moment between models I love, like Alton [Mason], who is a dear friend of mine, and Anok [Yai], who I truly love and think is one of the most beautiful women in the world. Then there’s the icon that is Nicolas Cage. Hugo and I are also good friends and we’ve wanted to work together for a long time, so this felt like the perfect time and place to do it.”

“We revisited the Hollywood heritage with our own life stories,” adds Comte, “mixing opulence and romance to create timeless images out of the fashion scope, with a universal vocabulary of pop culture.”- Hugo Comte, Photographer
