Coastal drive

Canali SS23 was a sartorial trip to the Italian Riviera

In tune with the brand’s commitment to heritage craft, Canali took over one of the oldest locations in Milan for its SS23 presentation: the 15th-century cloisters of San Barnaba.

Backdropped by a cafe scene surrounded by seasonal fruit and veg stalls and Mediterranean aromatic plants, models relaxed wearing Canali’s latest offering. The mood was set for a collection inspired by a trip to the Italian Riviera, more specifically colourful fishing village of Liguria and its stunning crescent-shaped coastline.

Here, warm pastel hues melted into twilight tones replicating the location’s unique lighting while silhouettes danced between formal and leisurewear. Very Talented Mr Ripley, we got chinos paired with louche shirts, technical overshirts with linen trousers, suede bombers with chevron embossing and lightweight peacoats for sundown. Liguria’s fishermen informed sailor-striped boatneck knits, while suits rendered in Super 150 wool, Solaro and cotton-silk, linen blends catered to formality in the sun. A nubuck tote in hand, the Canali man packs his swimshorts and laptop – ready for work or play.
