Miracle Worker

Nahmias’ FW22 campaign paints a toughened portrait of Californian youth
Fashion | 13 June 2022

Raised in the idyllically-named Californian coastal town of Summerland, designer Doni Nahmias has rooted his eponymous brand in his home state’s cultural heritage and singular personality: elevating laidback skate, surf and hip-hop codes from the street to the runway.

The FW22 season saw Nahmias buckle up his hard-wired aesthetic for tough times, mixing utilitarian, workwear tropes to his West Coast signatures. Titled Miracle Worker, the accompanying campaign was shot at Nahmias’ downtown LA studio by photographer Matthew Kavanaugh and styled by HERO contributing fashion director Gro Curtis. Here, against a moody backdrop, looks take centre-stage. Grungey jumpers worn beneath military vests and coach jackets inspired by LA’s baseball legends. Branded baggy denim alongside crochet knitted hoodies and tie-dye compositions that nod to Cali’s unique counter-culture history.
