Bambi’s Back

Givench-ney?: Matthew M. Williams teams up with Disney for a cartoon capsule

Givenchy’s Matthew M. Williams welcomes Disney to the high fashion salons of Paris in the house’s latest luxury collaboration.

Presiding over a capsule that features some of the media titans’ most beloved characters, the ready-to-wear offering is the first instalment in the brand’s ‘The Wonder Gallery’ series, which Williams kickstarts by taking us inside a whirling zoetrope (save your self the Google, they’re those twirling lamps with the pictures inside). In a series of teaser clips available to watch here, Bambi returns to Givenchy for the first time in a decade. (You might remember the clumsy deer as the star of Riccardo Tisci’s FW13 runway, collaged atop a burlesque dancer as he became the unlikely street-style star of the season thanks to Beyoncé and Lily Collins.)

To celebrate, Williams took a cast of models to Disneyland for a truly magical time.

Bambi is then joined by a handful of the 101 Dalmations, unfortunately without Cruella, as well as Oswald (The Lucky Rabbit) and Frozen’s Ana and Olaf. The jury’s still out on exactly what fashions these world-renowned stars could be sporting in drops to come – a couple of shark-lock ankle boots would definitely not go amiss – but for now, their instantly recognisable silhouettes have taken to a range of casual items from slim fit t-shirts to oversized hoodies.

“Disney has always held a special place in my heart, as it has for so many across generations, countries and cultures,” says Williams. “As a boy from California and a father in Paris, Disney has always been a source of meaningful moments throughout my life. It’s a true honour to bring out two iconic brands together for this project.”

The first Disney and Givenchy capsule collection will launch in select locations and on Givenchy.com today.
