We premiere worldwide exclusive images from Saint Laurent‘s new Rive Droite collaboration with Belgian artist Bruno V. Roels.
Photography by Henrik Purienne
Currently running at Saint Laurent’s Rive Droite stores in Paris and Los Angeles, Anthony Vaccarello invited Roels to present a curated series of works. Dividing his practice between writing and photography, for Roels the act of printing and making an image tangible is as important as taking the initial photograph. Constantly documenting his surroundings, he then turns these images into printed matter, toying with ideas of copying, mimicking and representation.
His series, A Palm Tree Is a Palm Tree Is a Palm Tree (2013-present), for instance, is a series of photographic grid assemblages built of multiple iterations of a single image, each the same but somewhat different.
Inspired by Roels’ fascination with the physical, Vaccarello has reimagined these images as a series of exclusive products using the palm tree as a guiding motif; across men’s and women’s RTW, jewellery and lifestyle pieces including towels, phone cases and even a series of monogrammed wooden longboards.
