Fit For A King

If you’ve been watching the movements of Gucci these last few years, you’ll know that, besides a flamboyant 70s frill, there’s nothing Alessandro Michele loves more than a road trip, taking to a slew of incredible locales across the world. But the house’s forthcoming show takes it up a few notches by hosting the festivities inside a castle in the sky. Castel Del Monte, to be precise.
Taking place on May 16th, the show will make use of the historically imposing fortress, masterminded by Frederick II of Hohenstaufen in 1240. Fit for a Sicilian King, the castle is best known for its unique geometric exterior that towers high above the sun-soaked region of Apulia on a hill around 540 meters above sea level, meaning the iconic abode is constantly bathed in sunlight and offers a cracking view, too.
With its architectural make-up teasing a blend of Northern European flourishes, blending cultures, religions and aesthetics with classical Italian antiquity, might this be an allusion to the crux of Michele’s forthcoming collection? We’ll just have to wait and see.
