Jonathan Anderson is joining the team for Luca Guadagnino’s forthcoming tennis epic, Challengers, as the production’s costume designer.

An avid lover of film – particularly those produced Studio Ghibli – the move will see Anderson join the likes of Miuccia Prada (The Great Gatsby, Romeo + Juliet), Jean Paul Gaultier (The Fifth Element) and Craig Green (Alien: Covenant) in the fashion canon as greats who made the jump from catwalk to costume.

Shooting to fame off the back of coming-of-age epics like Call Me By Your Name and the HBO army-brat series We Are Who We Are, the project’s director, Luca Guadagnino, has also tapped up a trio of Hollywood’s freshest faces for the production: with Loewe muse (and HERO Winter Annual 2019 cover star) Josh O’Connor, Zendaya and Mike Faist set to take up the reigns as the production’s feisty protagonists.

The romantic drama centres around the life and times of a sports-star-turned-coach named Tashi (Zendaya), whose world-champion husband Art (Mike Faist) begins to lose his spark. Having fallen to the lowest ranks of the professional tennis world after a series of woeful games, Faist ends up going to toe-to-toe (or racket to racket) with Zendaya’s former-flame and his own ex-pal, Josh O’Connor – cue a passionate entanglement.

With production on the film set to kick off early next week, we reckon that gives Anderson a good few days to rustle up some cracking patchwork tennis knits, stretchy headbands and glittering unitards for the occasion – Wimbledon, here he comes.
