Pictures For Purpose hosts print sale to aid victims in Ukraine
By Bailey Slater | Art | 11 March 2022

Philanthropic initiative Pictures for Purpose are supporting victims of the current Ukraine war with a print sale raising funds for World Central Kitchen, a global not-for-profit that provides fresh meals in the wake of humanitarian crises.

‘Floresti’ by Jamie Hawkesworth (2018)

The creative effort, curated and founded by Isabella van Marle, Kunna Haan, Tijn Benedek and Raisa Kingma, got its start raising funds for a Dutch food bank during the first COVID-19 lockdown. After supporting Justdiggit and the UN’s environment programme in the fight against climate change soon thereafter, the foursome had inadvertently cultivated a platform for artists to generate financial support and awareness for urgent causes through the medium of photography.

With 41 talents from across the world now donating prints to the project’s third instalment, Ukrainian artists Daria Svertilova, Julie Poly and Synchrodogs find themselves joined by the likes of Jamie Hawkesworth, Inez and Vinoodh, Nadav Kander and Andrea Grützner. Their work is united in its various interpretations of freedom and resilience, featuring young couples in tender entanglements, dining rooms lit by ghostly white-lights and sun-lit windows promising a better tomorrow.

All prints included in the project have been priced at €125, with an option for artists to claim 25 percent of their sales, and will be available in an open edition for two weeks through the Pictures for Purpose site.
