Going for Gold

Here are the semi-finalists of the 2022 LVMH Prize
By Bailey Slater | Fashion | 18 February 2022

Now that Fashion Month is well and truly underway, what better way to celebrate the next generation of global design visionaries than with the announcement of this year’s LVMH Prize shortlist. Over 1,900 designers from across the world applied for this year’s iteration, with just twenty making it to a shortlist.

In its lengthy grandeur, the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers aims to provide emerging talent with the tools they need to take their brands to the next level – be that a year of mentorship ranging from sustainability development to financial management, or monetary assistance in the form of a €300,000 grant to aid the building of their unique institutions from the ground up.

With French designer Nensi Dojaka snagging last year’s grand prize, praised for her slinky, asymmetric crops and deconstructed gowns, the 2022 prize places a renewed focus on sustainability and the fluidity of gendered fashion. “The twenty semi-finalists are driven by an optimistic and innovative vision,” explains Louis Vuitton’s executive vice president, Delphine Arnault, who spearheaded the prize’s inception back in 2013.

“They all place eco-responsibility at the heart of their creative approach with the use of recycled materials, upcycling, etc. They are also very keen on integrating a more ethical production system, while some place the spotlight on local and traditional know-how.”
