Xmas Wish List: Ahluwalia reveals her gift-giving essentials
By Bailey Slater | Fashion | 23 December 2021

Now that Mariah Carey and Wham! are battling out on the airwaves, it’s safe to say Christmas is well and truly on its way: chugging into Platform 25 at full speed, dodging Covid variants like a slalom skier. What with all the chaos, you can be excused for being ill-prepared, so we’ve taken it upon ourselves to help out the inspirationally-barren shoppers among us by calling on some of our favourite tastemakers to share what they’re expecting in their stockings this Holiday season.

This Christmas, Priya Ahluwalia wants to find Ahluwalia under the tree, not that we can blame her. The award-winning designer’s beautifully embellished menswear presents an array of stocking stuffing possibilities. There’s deconstructed sportswear, intricately beaded polos, photobooks, wave print denim bottoms, and of course the highly-begrudged winter accessory of the year: a COVID-proof facemask. Peppering the list with skincare recommendations and a night out at her favourite small-plates hotspot, there’s quite literally no one else we’d rather draw our name at a workplace Secret Santa.

Byredo Candle – Safran
“A scent evoking one of the most colourful and delicate spices. Soft notes of sweet saffron and black pepper blend with labdanum, fragrant violet, amber and creamy vanilla.”

Expression Blazer and Trouser
“A new shape for SS22 cut from up-cycled Italian fabrics, the Expression Blazer and Trouser set is softly tailored for maximum comfort and wearability. Its contrasting wave panels are both finished with clean lines of Ecru piping, whilst the Blazer also features a double-breasted button placket and classic three-pocket layout.”

Ellis Mackintosh
“The Ellis Macintosh is the perfect transitional weather piece given its lightly quilted body and single-breasted button-up fastening. Both the exterior and lining are cut from dead-stock materials sourced in Italy whilst our contrast wave panel is neatly finished with ecru piping.”

Dinner at Pali Hill
“Located in the heart of Fitzrovia, and modelled on the cultural melting pot of communal living, commonly known as “building societies” in Bombay, is pali hill. Named after an old city neighbourhood, pali hill offers the finest regional Indian small plates, derived from home recipes and traditional techniques.”

Braid Silk Shirt
“We offered up our signature honey beige and white Braid artwork to the pure silk construction of this shirt in alternating scales.”

My Inner Mystery T-shirt
“The black Inner Mystery Tee is a round neck, short-sleeved t-shirt rendered from soft, heavyweight organic cotton lifted from our SS22 collection.”

Ren Evercalm™ Overnight Recovery Balm (Supersize Edition)
“Soothe while you snooze with this ultra-nourishing overnight treatment proven to calm and soothe skin while you sleep.”

Jalebi Book
“Photographed by Laurence Ellis, Jalebi brings together several strands of my work and personal life into an expression of what it means to be a young person with mixed heritage living in modern Britain.”

Face Mask
“Adjustable using toggles, metal nose wire and embroidered branding!”

Life Between Islands: Caribbean-British Art 1950s – Now at Tate Britain
“This exhibition explores the work of artists from the Caribbean who made their home in Britain, alongside other British artists whose work has been influenced and inspired by Caribbean themes and heritage, spanning visionary paintings to documentary photography, fashion, film and sculpture.”
