Woo-Hoo!
As the fashion industry continues its expansion into the metaverse with digital drops and collabs to boot, London-based menswear duo Stefan Cooke have announced their own jaunt into the The Sims’ digital realm. Someone hold our green diamonds.
Made in collaboration with the British Fashion Council, co-designers Cooke and Jake Burt have selected 23 pieces from collections past and present for the digital capsule, titled The Sims 4 Modern Menswear Kit. Promising the latest and greatest in menswear brilliance, the pack builds upon a rich universe of expansion packs that allow gamers to steeze out their world with additional furnishings, textures, terrains, pets… you get the gist.
Already home to a budding customs and moderations market online, console users of the franchise will also be catered to, allowing them to ditch the game’s default shirts and trousers in favour of the label’s signature slashed knits in butter yellow, or FW21’s oversized argyle shirt-dresses. They’ve even thrown in a double denim look from the same season worn by A$AP Rocky, with a range of vests, trousers and other knitted appendages following in quick succession.
“Each material was carefully hand-painted to emulate the texture qualities by doing somewhat of a caricature of the details,” says The Sims’ Senior Art Director, Vincent Joly, of translating Cooke’s vibrant knits into a virtual space. “Exaggerating the shapes and controlling the contrast to not look too busy or photorealistic, at the same time not reducing the details too much to lose the essence of the fabrics. Each piece was tuned to find that sweet spot.”
Of course, this isn’t the game’s first brush with the big leagues, having previously collaborated with Gucci on their Off The Grid line in 2020, as well as working with Jeremy Scott on Moschino Stuff for SS19, but it is perhaps their most daring. Ultimately, Burt and Cooke hope the collaboration encourages people to become more adventurous with what they wear, IRL or URL.
The Sims 4 Modern Menswear pack drops on December 2nd 2021, available on PC, Mac via Origin and Steam, PS4 and PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.
