In 2002, entrepreneur and philanthropist Chris Ingram began The Ingram Collection – a significant collection of celebrated modern British art that is regularly lent to exhibitions across the world via an ethos that art should be publicly accessible for all. Expanding this work, in 2016, The Ingram Prize was founded as an initiative celebrating and supporting the early careers of UK art school graduates; recognising the vital importance of practical support in the early years of an artist’s career.

Now in its sixth year, HERO is very proud to be the main media partner of The Ingram Prize 2021, which today announces its 29 finalists drawn together from across the UK. Set to be announced at an awards show in London on 18th November, from this line-up three winners will have their work purchased for The Ingram Collection, while one winning artist will be offered a solo exhibition at The Lightbox Gallery and Museum in 2022 (in Woking, Chris Ingram’s home town). All 29 finalists will be offered the opportunity to apply for an artist residency project in 2022, given in partnership with Hestercombe Gallery in Somerset.

“The Ingram Prize is a barometer of artistic excellence in contemporary British art,” says Jo Baring, Director of The Ingram Collection, and Chair of the Ingram Prize jury. “29 exceptional finalists whose bold and startling work encapsulates contemporary themes and issues, including the environment, queer femme experience and immigration. One of the joys of the Ingram Prize is how it helps new artistic talent to bring their art to the widest possible audience.”

An exhibition of the Ingram Prize 2021 finalists’ work will be held at Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop, London W10 6TP, from 19th – 26th November 2021.
