hybrid forms

Loewe’s new Eye/Loewe/Nature collection is a triumph in patchwork and upcycling

The latest collection of Loewe‘s Eye/Loewe/Nature line has arrived, channelling its usual affinity for the natural elements and great outdoors. For FW21, the line that was originally launched by creative director Jonathan Anderson in 2019 is conceived as the uniform of intrepid explorers, on the move and in touch with nature. The new collection lookbook is modelled by two of Europe’s rising acting talents: French actor Omar Ayuso (Elite) and Spanish actor Stéphane Bak (Roads).

Just as previous collections have focused on upcycling and sustainability, this season echoes much of the same sentiment with the addition of patchwork fabrics that combine to form vibrantly playful collages. Echoing the Loewe house mantra, upcycling is not only a way of minimising the collection’s use of virgin materials but also a means of placing craft at the front and centre of the entire process: creating unique pieces that utilise recycled fabric and yarn as well as environmentally-safe dyeing techniques.

Elsewhere the collection’s emphasis is one of hybrid forms. Outdoor, vintage and military elements are fused with more traditional sportswear, with tweed tailoring morphing into sports jackets and military tents converted into long coats. The same is true of the collection’s knitwear, which incorporates upcycled and patchwork fabrics while combining Fair Isle knits with more contemporary fleeces for a similarly hybrid style. The outdoorsy spirit reaches a crescendo with the collections hiking boots, technical bags and practical accessories, all of which have been conceived in specialised fabrics to ensure maximum waterproofing and comfort on the move, perfect for re-acquainting yourself with nature.
