Match point

Having dug through the Fila archives, MSGM creative director Massimo Giorgetti has plucked classic pieces and injected them with his own vibrant and irreverent energy. Crafted in lycra and cotton, a line-up of halter-neck tops, mini skirts, shorts, polos and tees are cast in MSGM’s signature tie-dye prints and marble motifs as lace and ruffle detailing nods to the trailblazing femininity of Italian tennis icon Lea Pericoli. Throughout, the collection’s mantra – You Are My Match Point – is printed or embroidered on individual garments.
And proving the collection’s sporting credentials, it will be worn by FILA sponsored players including Karolina Pliskova, Sofia Kenin, Reilly Opelka, and Diego Schwartzman on court in Paris.
“Fila, for me, is the tennis court – says Massimo Giorgetti – I wanted to give a romantic interpretation of it, echoing a cinematic world. My main inspiration for the short skirts came from Lea Pericoli, the Italian tennis champion whose fashion choices on the court turned heads in the 1960s. In visiting the Fila archives, I was surprised by how much they have done over the decades. I just had to remix and update it.”
The collection is presented via a short video filmed in a villa in Herbeville by Oliver Hadlee Pearch that narrates a sensual love triangle on the tennis court. The piece is inspired by Woody Allen’s 2005 movie Match Point, one of Giorgetti’s favourite films.
