Luxury Italian car manufacturer Maserati switched to a higher gear today by announcing none other than David Beckham as their new global ambassador. The football icon, who recently unveiled his new Miami football franchise, will now take the wheel of Maserati’s ambition to drive the future of luxury motoring.

“The brand is moving forward,” says Maserati’s chief marketing officer Paolo Tubito. “Maserati is driven to challenge the status quo being innovative by nature, powered by passion, and unique by design. The partnership with David is the embodiment of all these values.”

Act one of this new partnership sees Beckham take the brand’s ultimate performance SUV – the Levante Trofeo – for a test spin, in a short film shot by American director and artist Harmony Korine (Kids, Spring Breakers). We’re all familiar with Becks’ prodigious talent with a football but less well-known are his skills on four wheels, as demonstrated in the perfectly executed set of doughnuts. Watch above.
