Launched in partnership with east London luxury retailers LN-CC, Aro Archive‘s long-term celebration of Yohji Yamamoto‘s archive has been given its latest chapter: a short film and accompanying photo series shot by British-Japanese duo Taka and Jennifer Sasaki.
At its heart, this latest part of the project centres on a 30-strong collection of archive Yohji garms, meticulously selected for the core values they reflect in the designer’s oeuvre of more than 30 years. That collection (which is available to purchase) acts as a counterpoint, against which the mixed-media project bounces ideas.
In the film (above), directed by Joseph Delaney, produced by London-based filmmakers Lez Creative and styled by Matt King, time and space remain non-descript as two parallel moments of collective euphoria unfold side by side. From the convent to the club, bodies move as one, synchronised by a shared urge to move and create.
Starring a diverse cast of faces, from models dancers and musicians, the line-up includes Canadian singer LA Timpa, British songwriter Gia Ford and London punk rock duo Skinny Girl Diet, as well as Balenciaga model Georgie Somerville, Gucci campaign model Sam Crowther.
Presented alongside are a series of stills (below) shot by Taka and Jennifer Sasaki, with each image showcasing one of the archive looks to be plucked from the last 30 years. With additional events and releases planned for this year, including the first pre-owned runway show to appear on schedule at London Fashion Week, be sure to watch this space.
