Youth of a nation
Milestones offer as good excuse as any for introspection and the 25th anniversary of Calvin Klein‘s CK One fragrance line is no exception. To mark the occasion they are holding up a stethoscope to the youthful heart of America, launching their One Future campaign, spotlighting the lives of young adults from across the country.
The result is an ethnographic study, conducted by a vanguard of photographers, that documents the hopes, dreams, fears and ambitions of a young generation in the midst of seismic change. Like any study of its kind, the campaign is a time-capsule, and in years to come will doubtlessly be looked upon as an important historical record of the here and now.
From a trumpet prodigy to an aspiring photographer, a young rancher and a school shooting survivor, the campaign’s inspiring cast were shot in their hometowns by a photographer who also shared a local connection. Across a new series, we get to know some of the cast members a little better.
First up is 24 year-old Jawn Davis. Born and raised in California, his accompanying CK One video sees him in his native Compton (at his grandma’s house) skating and hanging out with his friends – a typical day-in-the-life.
“Energy is powerful, positive thought patterns are powerful,” he says of his hopes for the future, “I’m hopeful for a world that divides less and combines more.” Jawn’s passion unfolds across skateboarding, creating music and repurposing thrifted clothes through embroidery and patchwork. Here he takes us through his experience working with Calvin Klein while spotlighting his favourite Cali skating spots.
How did you get connected with Calvin Klein?
“I first connected with Calvin Klein through my Instagram. All I post are the clothes that I make, the skateboarding that I do, and my music, mostly. Shout out social media man.”
What does Calvin Klein represent to you?
“This brand represents one word: iconic. Like, if you looked it up in a dictionary, Calvin Klein would be there. I’m hyped to be a part of the one future #ckone campaign.”
What was it like working on the one future #ckone campaign?
“We actually shot the one future #ckone campaign at my Grandma’s house in Compton, California, so I was comfortable in the creative process of the shoot.”
Jwkon Skate Plaza
“This skate plaza is only really skate-able on Sundays. The rest of the week security guards will kick you out. It has everything from ledges to stairs to handrails. It’s super fun. You’re guaranteed to see your favourite pro skater here on any given Sunday morning.”

Hollywood High School
“I’ve been here only a hand full of times and it’s always fun to see pro skaters huck themselves off sixteen stairs. I have skated the 12-stair handrail on the fence side.”

Venice Beach
“I remember the first time I went to Venice Beach was for a skateboard contest when I was twelve years old. I collided head-on with another kid, but still won a free shirt. Venice is definitely a good spot to just skate around and take in the weird vibes. I typically like to go around sunset to get in a session at the skatepark.”
