If you’re someone that also finds gliding over anonymous stretches of pixelated roads on Google Maps oddly peaceful, this is the moment you’ve been waiting for. In collaboration with the BFI, Google has hidden a selection of classic British films across its virtual map of the UK, encouraging movie fans to scour the length and breadth of the country in search of their favourite movie.

From such classics as SkyfallShaun of the DeadPhantom Thread and Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit, the selection of films are refreshed every few days with a limited number of codes for each, so no dawdling. Each film is accompanied by a clue to aid your search, though specific titles are withheld. So how do you know once you’ve found Atonement? And what does Shakespeare in Love actually look like? Your guess is as good as ours, but you’ll know once you see it.

Launched as part of Google Pixel Mobile Cinema, the hunt will require all huntees to tap into 5g in order to play. To reassure us there’s absolutely no reason to fear this innocent bit of small print and that the whole thing is just a benevolent handout, Google turned to Dr Wing Yee Cheung, senior lecturer in psychology and researcher on nostalgia at the University of Winchester. According to Cheung, watching these movies in lockdown will lay the foundations for future nostalgia.

“These movies are embedded with sensory memories of when we first watched them and whom we watched them with, which are key triggers of nostalgia. We can take the opportunity during the lockdown to create more positive memories with people in our social bubble for future recollection.”
