Kris Van Assche has created a Berluti beach buggy
Fashion | 21 August 2020

Berluti have created a beach buggy because, why not? The last few years have seen industry stalwarts across the continent broaden their horizons by expanding into alternative fields (Louis Vuitton’s surfboard springs to mind, as des Saint Laurent’s boxing gear), so Berluti’s stab at the automobile industry feels par for the course.

From a distance, you could be forgiven for thinking Berluti’s beach buggy looks like a toy car. Its petit proportions and soft-top roof look like it could be held in the hand of a small child, but up close (or shown alongside a range of Berluti bags) its true scale becomes apparent. Supposedly, creative director Kris Van Assche was inspired by the Berluti Signature printed canvas bag and has re-moulded many of its most appealing features into a driveable form.

That roughly translates into leather, lots of it. The dashboard, steering wheel, gear lever and the two seats (handcrafted in Epernay, France, by Sellerie Duval) are covered in leather, plus a removable luggage carrier encased in, you guessed it, black leather. Take it for a spin at a beach near you by booking via special request.
