Balenciaga open a dramatic new store at Rome’s Spanish Steps
Fashion | 31 July 2020

Balenciaga are opening shop in Rome, cutting the ribbon on a brand new flagship in the Italian capital.

Open on 4th August, the store is located at the foot of the Piazzi di Spagna’s iconic Spanish Steps, inviting the Roman streets inside via glass doors and windows curved inward to create “convex spaces that reveal a wider view of the store’s interior from outside.”

Inside the store, the house’s men’s, women’s and kids’ ready-to-wear will all be available across two floors. Rooms evolve from one another, building on an overall theme defined by a culture of “preservation and drama.”

Transposing the signatures of public, civic architecture into a private, retail space, codified textures – asphalt-like, interlocking concrete tile, and logo-carved carpet in cement grey and theatrical red – combine with industrial mirrors and lacquered metal details as red curtains fill the space, eluding to Italy’s dramatic, operatic history.

Balenciaga’s new Rome store is located at 67-69 Piazza di Spagna, 00187, Roma, Italy.
