Shortly after celebrating the 40th anniversary of their G-Class series, Mercedes-Benz have teamed up with Virgil Abloh for a specially commissioned art work. Set for a grand unveiling this September, the collaboration seeks to combine luxury automobiles with its fashion counterpart, pushing boundaries in both high-end industries.

“Mercedes – Benz is a brand that stands for luxury and exceptional performance,” says Abloh. “Truly a perfect chassis to interject modern artists’ ideas of what the future can be stylistically, within conceptual car design.”

Working in collaboration with Mercedes’ chief design officer, Gorden Wagener, the project underscores what has made the manufacturer so successful. “Mercedes-Benz today is much more than a luxury carmaker , it is a design brand and luxury label,” says Waegner. “One major reason for our success story is our aesthetic soul and the unique style of our house. The next step in pushing Mercedes-Benz design is our collaboration with Virgil Abloh. We are set to create something unseen in both of our branches.”

A miniature replica model of the art work will be auctioned off the same month of its release, with all proceeds going to charities that support the arts. The winner will also receive access to the co-creators, including a personal introduction to the inspirations behind the artwork.

The art work will be digitally launched to a global audience on Tuesday 08 September 2020 , 4:00PM CET. View it here
