Of all the major global cities crippled by Coronavirus, few have been hit as hard as New York, the cultural capital of America which now accounts for over half of the country’s total number of cases. In response to the crisis, Christian Weber and Zach Gold, two artists based in the city, founded AMASS.life, a new online project aimed at raising support funds for New York’s embattled health care workers by harnessing the collective power of its celebrated creative community.

Calling upon their global network of Academy Award winners, artists, photographers, creative directors and agencies, the website provides a platform for the likes of Barnaby Roper, Brad Elterman, Fabien Baron and Mick Rock to donate works of art that are available to buy for $95. The full proceeds from each sale will go to New York’s Covid-19 Emergency Relief Fund, which provides for vulnerable New Yorkers and small businesses as well as healthcare workers and essential staff.

As two photographers that have made significant contributions to New York’s leading arts scene, Gold and Weber see the project as an opportunity for them, and others, to give back to the city in which they made their names. On a bigger scale, AMASS is the latest example of creative communities across the world banding together to make crucial contributions during a time of crisis, echoing similar projects like 100 Photographers for Bergamo and Dream Sequence Editions.
