SILENT MADNESS

Yves Tumor navigates a psychedelic underworld in Mowalola’s surreal new film

Despite graduating just two years ago, Mowalola Ogunlesi has a reputation as one of the most innovative designers in London right now. Already, she’s built an immersive world around her often slashed, paint-splattered leather pieces, which expanded in December last year with the launch of London exhibition Silent Madness. Now, Ogunlesi has released yet another visual treat: a fashion film of the same name, starring experimental musician Yves Tumor.

Created with filmmaker Jordan Hemingway, the chaos begins in a hallucinatory club scene, filled with party-goers dressed head-to-toe in Mowalola SS20. A trippy cutscene then signals a descent into a psychedelic underworld, which mixes with flashes of the kind of saturated, abstract visuals that cropped up as prints on a handful of SS20 pieces. From neon splatters to creepy, horror-style imagery, the impactful short film is another glimpse into the eerie world of Mowalola, who already counts legendary models like Naomi Campbell and Debra Shaw as fans.

So relax, hit play and take a trip down Ogunlesi’s freaky, kaleidoscopic rabbit hole: it’s one hell of a ride.
