First steps

Menswear designer Saul Nash joins the SS20 Fashion East line-up
Fashion | 17 May 2019

Showcasing London’s next generation of menswear designers, talent incubator Fashion East has announced its SS20 line-up, featuring second-season returns from Nigerian designer Mowalola Ogunlesi and Ireland-native Robyn Lynch, while Royal College of Art-graduate Saul Nash joins the bill for his debut.

With a background in both menswear and performance dance, Nash combines these disciplines within his design codes. For an idea of what to expect from the designer this season, look back to his FW19 presentation, STATIC|MOTION: A Conversation Part II, where models were replaced by dancers who, choreographed by Nash, performed wearing the designer’s collection – a poetic take on sportswear informed by the kinetic body and memories of the different people he grew up around in London.

The show also boasts returns from Mowalola, who last season riffed on the theme of exposure with a high-octane collection of barely-there miniskirts, pulled-up G-strings and bumster jeans, and Robyn Lynch, who took the opportunity to pay homage to her Irish roots via a collection directly inspired by both archival images of Dublin Games players and fans, and the style of her own dad.

“The hit I get from these three designers and their work is pure energy with conviction, poise, talent, and a unique point of view,” says Lulu Kennedy, founder and director of Fashion East. “All important qualities we look for in individuals and we’re thrilled to present three such talents all in one show!”
