Marques’Almeida will relocate to Paris for SS19

Perhaps last season’s Marques’Almeida show location – a concrete space beneath the old Eurostar terminal in Waterloo – was something of a hint, as the London-based design duo have announced they will be relocating to Paris for their SS19 show.

Born and raised in Portugal, Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida first met whilst studying at CITEX fashion school. In 2009 they moved to London in search for work, taking on internships at Preen and Vivienne Westwood respectively before forming their eponymous womenswear label shortly after graduating from CSM in 2011.

Since then, the pair have carved out their niche: blending disparate textures to create empowering womenswear that is lapped up by the brand’s devoted fan base. It’s an approach that, in 2014, saw the duo win the Emerging Womenswear Designer award at the British Fashion Awards and, the following year, the designers bagged the highly-coveted LVMH prize for young fashion designers.

As for what to expect from Marques’Almeida’s Parisian move? You’ll just have to wait until next month to find out.
