Today marks the end of an era for Nicola Formichetti, as it has been announced that he will be stepping down from his position as artistic director at Diesel after four years.

“The contract expires at the end of December, so there is not that much to say,” said Diesel founder Renzo Rosso in an interview with WWD. “We’ve had five fantastic years [including early interaction with Formichetti]. It was a fantastic collaboration. I really love very much what was done, and the relationship between us is really special.”

Starting his career as a stylist working with Lady Gaga, Nicola spent three years at Mugler before arriving at Diesel in 2013 as the brand’s first artistic director. He now has an assemblage super successfully adverts and campaigns to his name, along with collaborations with edgy photographers such as Nick Knight and David LaChapelle.

Formichetti described his time at Diesel as “amazing,” saying: “I’ve had a good time, but we both decided to end it here. I travel a lot to New York and Tokyo. I want to concentrate on my projects, but there will always be a bond between us.” In leaving Diesel Formichetti should be able to give more attention to his own brand, Nicopanda, saying he expects “there will be more styling, going deeper with musicians and actors. My dream is to work on a movie.”
