Behind the Scenes for Hugo Boss The Scent Intense dir. Darren Aronofsky
“A scent represents not one but all the sensory elements connected with that person. It tells a story and it brings two people together for a unique moment,” actor Theo James tells us, referring to his latest role as the face of Hugo Boss’ new fragrance The Scent Intense.
The Divergent star’s second collaboration with Hugo Boss, this new campaign also marks his second time teaming up with Mother! director Darren Aronofsky, who directed the sensual ad (don’t worry, it isn’t anywhere near as much of a mind-bender as Aronofky’s previously mentioned work) – seen below via exclusive behind the scenes images of the new campaign.

Encapsulating feelings of seduction and attraction, something which James states is “extremely powerful” and can “draw two people together”, the new men’s fragrance comes with a female partner, The Scent Intense for Her, faced by model Anna Ewers.
Getting to know each other from the get-go, the campaign sees the pair sharing a palpable on-screen chemistry. “It was the first time we had met,” says James, “and it is always a little awkward when you first meet someone, then you have to get straight to it – but it was very easy.”
On working with Aronofsky, James says: “It was great to work with Darren again. He had a very strong vision and idea of what he wanted to do on the day. With a campaign like this, it is important to keep an air of intimacy in the environment and I think Darren really achieved that. As an actor, it is nice to come on to a set and work with someone who understands the language. He made the filming process very interesting.”
