Inside Martine Rose’s FW17 zine celebrating her North London community
By Alex James Taylor | Art | 7 August 2017

When it comes to show spaces, London menswear designer Martine Rose tends to opt for the unusual. Take last season, when Rose took guests away from their central London comfort zone to her North London neighbourhood, showing her SS18 collection at Stronghold Climbing Centre in Tottenham – a stone’s throw from the studio she’s worked out of for the past ten years.

Now rewind to FW17 when Rose showed at Seven Sisters’ Columbian market. A subversive take on the city’s male characters – bankers, office workers and bus drivers – the collection was an homage to the market’s diverse community. Now, the designer has created a zine, in collaboration with London boutique Machine-A and Ditto publishing, that further celebrates the N7 location.

Titled Don Pedro, the zine features imagery shot around the market location by photographer Britt Lloyd and styled by Kate Lorga alongside quotes from Rose on her inspirations and advice. Read an exclusive excerpt below:

“Without fail at all, always, always listen to your instinct because it is never ever ever wrong. Never. I can say that without fail, because it’s true, and it’s really really hard because it’s not necessarily the loudest voice in your head and it’s really hard to listen to that. I think you have to learn to listen to it”
A limited edition of just 200 copies, the publication goes on sale at Machine-A on 8th August alongside the Martine Rose FW17 collection drop.

The zine is available to pre-order at Ditto and Machine-A.
