Your nightmare

Long summer days leading into clear night skies, navy shadows cast from the light of star constellations – and an emotive scene was set for Agi + Sam’s SS16 show on Day Two of London Collections: Men.

The boys walked out in hand painted pyjama stripes, silk shirts tied around their waists, denim macs layered leather waistcoats and all with their eyes clouded by an intrusive spray of dark harsh ink. More solemn, for sure, than last season’s childlike lego masks, but applied here the perfect accent to underline nightmares as the concept underlining this collection. Monsters under the bed and all that, skeletons in the cupboard – Agi Mdumulla and Sam Cotton’s propensity towards elements of both youth and fantasy is well established now, and it works.

Poppers replaced shirt buttons and socks matched their sweaters, to sense of boyish comfort and lightheartedness ran through the clothing. A necessity for functionality was also present, in the oversized jacket hooks, pockets concisely added onto most garments, also in the straps and buckles of the duffel bags, and in the shearling puffs found at the collar of their bomber jackets – useful as dusk sets when the chill of night snaps at your neck.
