Modernist mentality
Located at the heart of the Venice Biennale’s giardini stands the Nordic Pavilion, designed by Norwegian architect Sverre Fehn in 1962. Choosing the iconic design for the setting of his eponymous brand’s SS17 campaign, Neil Barrett wanted to reference the building’s modernist sensibilities – a key component of his own output.

Barrett’s interest in architecture is well-documented and is often cited as a major influence in his collections – look no further than the British designer’s flagship stores, all designed by the late (and great) architect Zaha Hadid. Reflecting the SS17 collection’s juxtaposition between nostalgic reference points – think 60s and 70s with California Dreaming blasting on the speakers – and that progressive modernism that runs deep in the Neil Barrett DNA, the design classic setting is fitting to say the least.
