Bande á Part’s debut track is a portrait of artistic chaos
By Alex James Taylor | Music | 31 October 2024

Sabina Hellstrom, leader of London-based outfit Bande á Part describes their debut single as “a representation of how internal chaos fuels external creativity and artistic expression.” Titled Chaos, the track reveals the band’s initial sound and voice, warping the spectrum of loud and quiet, light and dark to create a layered composition that unfolds gradually; bristling with raw post-punk energy and distorted orchestration. Recorded live between South London’s Teeth Studios and the iconic Union Chapel, Bande á Part utilised the Chapel’s legendary organ built in 1877 to add depth to the track – the warm, gothic keys becoming the track’s heartbeat, whipped into a frenzy by wild sax and chasing drums. Completing the band’s current line-up, Hellstrom is joined by Milo Stapleton (bass guitar), Billy Rubin (keyboard, percussion), Pedro Soler (guitar), Sebastian Bloom (drums).

The accompanying video – premiered above, directed by Pedro Soler and Alex Schipper – mirrors the track’s spirit, using rapid-cut frames and strobe effects to disorientate the viewer and reflect explosive bursts of creativity and rebellion. “Each visual and sonic element serves as a metaphor for the turbulent journey of self-expression,” Hellstrom tells us, “Chaos should reveal how these feelings, though challenging, forge a path to artistic innovation, the relentless energy and beauty of these moments.”
