Hedi Slimane‘s FW23 Celine Homme show riffed on the menacing electro beats of US duo Suicide. Paying tribute to the late Alan Vega and his musical partner Martin Rev, Slimane sent out models in studded leathers, crystal tassels, slimline tailoring and animal prints – like “feral Elvises”, as we said in our report.

As the pulsing synth of an extended version of Suicide track Girl rang out, the collection featured a series of looks decorated with Alan Vega’s Ransom Notes artworks – a series of collages created in 1974 that spliced together newspaper cuttings to create punchy sentences. ‘Everything Special Deadly Wait Anything But Love Bozos The Wake Of Vicious Sons To Fight It’ adorns sleeveless tees and hoodies, while ‘Dare Future All-star Stand’it Glory Blaze’ is hand-knitted across a jumper with threads left loose. Vega studied visual art at Brooklyn College under Ad Reinhardt before founding Suicide, and continued to create throughout his life, evolving his process as an extension of his music.
