Tania Kovats is the latest artist to snag Louis Vuitton’s Curated Shelf, a project that tightly binds the worlds of literature and art.

Presenting an oceanic text was a given for Kovats, choosing The Sea Around Us by Rachel Carson and selecting fifteen various editions with individual covers to highlight the importance of the sea within her work.

That Kovats has spent recent times voyaging the world, collecting water from the intersections of the great oceans is testament to great commitment to her own vision. The journey was key to the crafting of her current solo exhibition: aptly titled Oceans, it ties directly into the shelf theme.

A trek the process certainly was, Kovats’ journey supplemented by a global project that saw her call on the public to collect seawater for the piece, All The Seas. Louis Vuitton has supported the artist’s journey from the beginning, sponsoring her efforts and using their own network of international stores to help with the endeavour. Kovats’ shelf is hence the pinnacle in a long, salty process that captures the soul of the stuff that covers 70 per cent of this planet’s surface.

Curated Shelf by Tania Kovats runs until May at Louis Vuitton Bond Street, 17-20 New Bond Street, London, W1S 2RB

Oceans by Tania Kovats runs until 25th May at The Fruitmarket Gallery, 45 Market Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1DF
