At Dior‘s out-of-this-world, sci-fi Pre-Fall 2019 show in Tokyo last December, models walked out under the gaze of a giant robot woman created by Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama. Marking the release of the collection, Dior has now revealed a series of exclusive pieces titled Retro-Futuristic and created by Kim Jones in collaboration with Sorayama.

A major figure in Japenese contemporary art, Sorayama is renowned for his cyborg pin-ups and self-described ‘superrealism’ style. Incorporating this aesthetic with Christian Dior’s love of flowers and Japan, Japanese cherry blossom, or sakura, drifts across a series of wardrobe staples – including sweats, graphic tees, accessories and jewellery – while Sorayama’s robotic dinosaurs and giant gynoid from the Pre-Fall show peak out from between the petals.

Oh, and pay extra attention to the B23 high-top trainer, updated with floral patterns and futuristic details – talk about stepping into the future.

The collection is available now online and in stores.
