MSGM’s show took place inside a Milan metro station

Guests to the MSGM FW24 show went underground. Down the steps of Milan’s red metro line – “one of the pulsating veins of the city and its inhabitants who pass through it daily.”

Here, on the platform of the Porta Venezia station, Massimo Giorgetti showed a collection inspired by notions of speed and the frenetic nature of city life. The season can be seen split into three key collaborations. Firstly, between Giorgetti and Franco Albini Foundation, the architect and designer of the first M1 metro line opened in 1964, which saw the tubular handrails of the Milanese subway transformed into tiny brooches and decorative details across outerwear. A second collaboration with Portuguese artist Tiago Alexandre went faster, creating imagery of motorbike helmets and protective gear. The third collab saw MSGM team up with Google, creating unique prints using the Google Pixel 8 and its camera using artificial intelligence (note, this is the first time Google have collaborated with a fashion brand).

Away from the collabs, the collection was as vibrant and playful as you’d expect from MSGM, with shearling collars, embellished crystal polka dots and tinsel-flecked knits. A few looks even saw models forget their trousers – we’ve all been there. As the show drew to a close, all of the fashion glitterati hopped on the train to the next show. Only kidding, obviously.
