Cocktails and blazers

Lanvin pays homage to the trailblazing, boho style of Nancy Cunard

Lanvin have released their pre-fall collection and it was inspired by the style of Nancy Cunard. A contemporary of Jeanne Lanvin, Cunard was born into the British upper classes and spent her life as a muse and patron of the arts (her close circle included Aldous Huxley, Ezra Pound, Man Ray, James Joyce and Langston Hughes) and she fought passionately against racism and fascism throughout her life. Her personal style, much of which is reflected in Lanvin’s collection, was a prototype of boho chic. She was famed for covering her arms in bangles made of bone and ivory which led her to becoming an unconventional style icon of her day.

Cunard’s blending of masculine and feminine fashions are stunningly reflected in Lanvin’s collection. The womenswear featuring traditional tailoring, blazers worn over skirts and high-waisted trousers, while the menswear includes boucle jackets and glove and jumper sets. Of course, there’s also many traditional suits and cocktail dresses expressing the ethos of Lanvin impeccably.

Practically every look is matched with a leather bag, an extension of the house’s leather goods line. And, as per usual, the looks cover every occasion from eveningwear to sportswear. A special shout-out has to also be made to the wool jumpers that come with huge matching scarves, very Lenny Kravitz coded.
