“Greetings from SIBLING, the land of sunshine,” read the SS17 invite, which was actually a postcard from Miami. Wish You Were Here saw SIBLING’S first combined men’s and women’s collection (yet another label challenging the status quo and shaking up the fashion system). With the strength of both sexes the show gave a salute to sunny Florida, acid and sun-drenched hues looking to dreamier weather from across the pond.
Swimsuits, sun-blushed cheeks, toned-and-tanned tums, killer sunglasses (a collaboration with Linda Farrow), smiling models and generous flashes of under-boob insighted major beach envy. Meanwhile for the girls, caged skirts and corsets (dipped in pastel hues and hand-drawn on with doodled shapes) took their inspiration from Helmut Newton.
Since inaugurating back in 2008, the design duo (Sid Bryan and Cozette McCreery) that make up SIBLINGS’s playful aesthetic have made their mark by juxtaposing wearability with quirky, avant-garde detailing. This season echoed their trademark, and strongly reinforced what they stand for.
With models dancing, smiling, laughing and looking delightfully tanned parading to the soundtrack of summer, the vibe carried through the show gave a shot of up-tempo energy – more than welcome on a dreary day in London. This really was SIBLING’s holiday in the sun.
