Against the Renaissance backdrop of the Victoria and Albert Museum’s Raphael Cartoons, Irish-born designer Richard Malone unveiled his latest collection. A dichotomy of the old guard and the new found itself laced within every aspect of the show, as Malone became the latest young designer to join the ranks of Mulberry’s Editions collaborative initiative, partnering to celebrate the brand’s 50th Anniversary.
The leather staples of the British house adopted a Malone style twist as they were paraded down the catwalk in a colour palette akin to the collection – a myriad of blues, greens, and reds with strong white panels to contrast. Silhouettes crafted from the sustainable materials both brands pride themselves on: recycled jersey were refashioned into ruched dresses, while deadstock leather became panelled trench coats and patchwork trousers. Individually made, the majority of these ready-to-wear pieces stand as one-offs, adding to the distinctiveness of Malone’s collection this season.
