The cancelled shows and revised structure of fashion week has gifted us some truly cinematic presentations for FW21, and Miu Miu closed out with one of the most visually spectacular. Set in the snowy Cortina d’Ampezzo, the heart of the Italian Dolomites mountains, the collection was underscored by panoramic landscapes of glistening white. It was here that Miuccia Prada’s heroines adventured. Brave Hearts is the collection’s title, and it conveyed a multitude of contrasting identities that exist in women, both in the realm of their fantasies and reality.
These mish-mashes were expressed at the most extreme through styling. Slip dresses were paired with fluffy ski boots, arm warmers and balaclavas. Colours were bright, silhouettes were joyfully squishy and shimmering with beads, spikes and crystals.
It’s the uniform of the #MiuMiuMountainClub – a loose members’ dress code. Resembling absurdly glamorous hikers, the runway walk itself almost seemed to transmute into a meaningful act of walking together. “Collective strength and a community of spirit” was a defining takeaway message imparted by Prada – an uplifting note to send off a challenging season.
