Purity, strenght and elegance: Maxime SS22 presents a study on glass
Fashion | 16 June 2021

Maxime, the London-based design house of French designer Maxime Fruit, draws reference from the building blocks of modern living. Having cut his teeth working as development & production manager for the likes of Vetements, Yang Li and A-Cold-Wall*, this fascination with our surroundings and materials becomes clear.

Fruit’s sophomore collection, Edition 2, sees the designer continue his study of interior design with particular attention to glass. “This particular material is omnipresent in most of our homes,” reads the accompanying text. “Its unique properties radiate purity, strength and elegance.” Beginning with the material’s rawest form, sand, soft beige tones mix into a tranquil palette of light blue and tinted teal. Ideas of transparency and opacity manifest as see-through and translucent fabrics, while blurry technical fabrics echo the surreal, abyss-like quality of layered glass. Minimalist tailoring sets the outline throughout, alongside knitted vests, structured outerwear and collarless blazers – accessoried with lightweight scarves and crossbody bags drawn in the fundamental outline of a house.

Working with world-renowned glass specialists, Fiam Italia, the collection’s lookbook and campaign video are both documented inside the Italian brand’s factory in Pasaro – presenting Maxime’s collection in the reflection of its muse.
